My Day at the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London

Last Friday was a dream come true!! And the best belated birthday present ever.

I left Manchester on the Thursday to catch the train down to London, where I met up with my Dad, Sisters and Step Mum. We had a lovely Italian for dinner and then an early night, each of us very excited for our visit to the Harry Potter Studio Tour the next day!

After a bit of a tricky ride there on the underground and trains (we were a bit stressed about being late when we got on the wrong, slower train instead of the express one), we finally arrived for our 11:00 slot into the most amazing exhibition in the world!!

It was so incredible. I can’t even fathom into words how amazing it was. To be in and see the sets that were used in the HP films. To see the costumes and props and models the art department created. I don’t want to explain it all in tooooo much detail, because I feel like the magic of being there is a lot to do with not knowing the ins and outs of everything they have, to be surprised every time you turn the corner. I don’t want to spoil anything for those of you who are dying to go and haven’t yet. All I can say is GO GO GO GO. You won’t be disappointed. It’s an amazing place. Magic!

But promise me one thing for when you do go. Try the Butterbeer, it’s delicious! And bring enough money to buy some once in a lifetime souvenirs at the HP Store!!

Here are just a few of the zillions of photos I took. Just a small glimpse of what the HP Studio Tour has to offer :).

This week’s question: Who would you want as House Dormmates at Hogwarts?

Hm… good question! Even though I love Ron and Neville, for example, I’m assuming that I can’t chose any boys for this, based on Hogwarts Dorm rules 😛

Choosing 4 Dormmates should be easy enough, but seeing as I’m a Hufflepuff, I can’t technically have Luna, Hermione or Ginny as mine (don’t want to take them away from the house they belong in). Probably I’m taking this tooooo seriously, however..

I decided to pick four non-HP characters for this task. Seemed like a better way to do it!! And I feel like each of this girls I pick could fit quite well in Hufflepuff with me 🙂

Blue Sargent

I love Blue from The Raven Cycle. She’s such a great character, really individual and interesting and someone I think I’d definitely get on with really well. Having her as a room mate would certainly be interesting!

Cath Avery

I really liked Cath from Fangirl. I think we’d have a great time fangirling (obviously) and enjoying books, writing and the quieter activities 🙂

Isla Martin

Out of the three main characters in Stephanie Perkin’s Anna, Lola and Isla books, I definitely related the most to Isla. She and I have a lot in common and I would really get along well with someone like her 🙂 Plus, I’d love to be friends with Kurt, and while I’m at it, Josh, Anna and St Etienne as well 😛

Viola Eade

Viola from Chaos Walking is such a great character. She’s clever and opinionated and strong and I think she’d be great as a roommate, someone who’ll always have your back.

And there you are! What do you think of my choices?

Note: None of this art shown in this post belongs to me!

Top Ten Tuesday: Tv Shows For Harry Potter Characters

top ten tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by the Broke and the Bookish.

The topic this week: TV SHOWS. Basically any spin on it that you want 🙂

For my TV Show Top Ten I decided to choose 10 characters from Harry Potter to recommend them a television show that I’ve personally enjoyed. Not sure how well this worked out to be honest, as most of these were kind of just kinda throwing a character and a tv show together, but it was a lot of fun! I didn’t have time to put in the reasons for why I chose these pairs, so you can tell me 😛

Luna Lovegood

Ron Weasley

Black Books

Ginny Weasley

Neville Longbottom

Lavender Brown

Hermione Granger

My Mad Fat Diary

(well, I could’t think of anything for Hermione…and I just love this show so had to have it haha.)

Harry Potter

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Seamus Finnigan

Sirius Black

Game of Thrones

Scorpius Malfoy

Stranger Things

And that’s it. What do you think? 😛

This week’s question: Would you rather be friends with Hermione or Ginny?

Nothing against Ginny whatsoever, but my immediate thought is that I’d prefer to be friends with Hermione. I like her a lot, so why wouldn’t I want to be her friend! She’s amazing.
I think we’re just into more of the same things, such as books and being studious. I think we’re both kind of bossy, too, though I’m only bossy cause, as the oldest child, I’ve had to boss my siblings around (haha). So I don’t think her bossy tendencies would annoy me too much…or her other flaws, really. As long as she didn’t want to compete with me too much about who was smarter (she’d always win, but that kind of competition thing I find pretty annoying).
Overall, Hermione and I would have a lot of fun together and probably spend ages talking about books 😀 Which would be pretty brilliant if I do say so myself.

This week’s question: Which non Harry Potter characters would do well at Hogwarts?

Hmm…. good question!

Little bit of a tricky one. I mean, I can think of lots and lots of characters who would probably do great at Hogwarts but which one is the perfect choice….

In the end I went with:

Noah and Jude Sweetwine from Jandy Nelson’s I’ll Give You The Sun

This is one of my favourite books and Noah and Jude are also my favourite set of twins. They are amazing characters. They’re magical enough with their art as it is, so I can only image what they could do with magic at Hogwarts. I think they’d do well, and get themselves into all kinds of mischief.

Hype Or Like Friday: Harry Potter Month

Hype or Like Friday  is a weekly event hosted on Goodreads here.  Each month the three mods Jillian, Larkin and Britt, choose a hyped up book of the month to focus on and we’re free to participate in answering awesome weekly discussion topics and writing our own review on the chosen book. This month they’ve chosen Harry Potter due to the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child:).

Topic This Week (and it’s a great one!):

10 Things I Like About Harry Potter: Name 10 things you like about any of the books in the series. You’re not limited to a particular book. You can choose whatever you want from any book. It’s completely up to you. This category is wide open, but here’s a few ideas: favourite characters, spells, magical items, plot twists, villains, etc. You can do whatever you want with this.

These ten things I like about Harry Potter are in no particular order and in  a range of different categories, which were incredibly hard to chose as I’ve got about 1000000 things I like about HP 😛 But eventually, these ten things are what I came up with!

1. Hogwarts

If Hogwarts isn’t on everyone’s list, I’ll be very surprised! Especially when all us Harry Potter fans have ever really wanted is a letter from Hogwarts :). Hogwarts is a dream. It’s where most of Harry’s story takes place, it’s full of magical secrets and wonder and I just think it’s one of the most amazing places in literary history.

2. Dumbledore’s Wise Sayings

I love all the wise quotes J.K Rowling writes through our Albus Dumbledore. They’re perfect. I have so many favourites, a few of which I have selected as above :).

3. Ron Weasley

I love so many of the HP characters so much and it would be more than easy to put all of them on this list. But, as I’m trying to be a bit more broad by including a range of different choices, there’s only really one character I could possibly chose. Ron Weasley has always been my favourite character and he always will be. I think he’s just so brilliant and hilarious and flawed and underrated and real and brave and loyal. I’ve always thought he’s the most realistic character in HP and I stand by that. He’s the heart of HP, in my opinion.

4. “Always”

Well, we all know how incredibly amazing Snape’s whole storyline in HP is, and a large part of that revolves around this scene and his infamous ‘Always’ quote. How can you not love that? Gives me the feels every time, and when I say feels I mean feels of the crying, weeping, heart-breaking variety.

5. Magical Creatures

There are so many awesome magical creatures in the HP universe. Character creatures like Hedwig, Buckbeack, Dobby, not to mention all the many other magical creatures in Harry Potter, are just too good not to have on my list! Oh, I can’t wait for Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them!

6. Ron and Hermione

One of my favourite things about any book I read is always the romance and I love any chance to massively fangirl over a couple I ship, and the one I ship out of all the others in any other book is easily Ron&Hermione. I love them together so much. I love the slow burn of their relationship, I love their banter and how jealous they get, all that angst. I love how close they are, how they’re also best friends. They have always been a kind of role-model for a happy couple for me and I just think they are so perfect together.

7. Magic

I know this one kind of relates to some of the other things I’ve already said, but still. Magici is a central theme in the books and it felt silly not to put it on the list, really. All the different spells and potions and magical objects in Harry Potter are so integral to the story. Where would we ever be without Accio, Felix Felicis, Wingardium Leviosa, The Mauraders Map, not to mention Dark Magic?

8. The Horcruxes

I’ve always loved the whole Horcruxes twist in the plot and such an integral one. I think it’s so clever and dark and just something no one but Rowling would have thought of. I love it so much. Just brilliant and so damn evil.

9.  Quidditch

I am perhaps the least sporty person on the planet, but I do happen to love Quidditch. How could I not? It’s awesome and played in the air! Duh. I always loved reading the Quidditch games in the books :).

10. The Golden Trio

Harry, Ron and Hermione’s friendship is easily one of the best things about the books and the films. Without those three together there just wouldn’t even be a story to contend with. I love how strong they are together, how they support each other and call each other family (even before they more technically became family). I just think they’re one of the best friendships I’ve seen in any book out there and love them so much.

Well, that’s it! I’m going to miss Harry Potter Month!

What are your favourite things about Harry Potter?

This week’s question: Which books would you recommend to Dumbledore?

When I first saw this question I was just like, well… I have no idea how to answer that. What evil genius even come up with a question like this!? 😀

I had to have a good think. I thought about what Dumbledore is all about… magic, power, redemption, courage, wisdom. And I eventually came up with these three books/series that I think Dumbledore would enjoy because, basically, he would fit right in.

The Lord of The Rings by J. R. R Tolkien

I feel like this will basically be on everyone’s list, but decided to go with it anyway. I think Dumbledore would really enjoy this story of adventure, sacrifice, magic and friendship, and everything else this series is about as, let’s face it, LOTR pretty much has everything. Besides, I strongly believe that Dumbledore would find his book soul mate in Gandalf heh.

The Dark Tower by Stephen King

Maybe I’m recommending this to Dumbledore because I just finished it and it’s still on my mind and I just need to recommend it to everyone on the planet, fictional or otherwise, but I really do think Dumbledore would enjoy this series a great deal and that it would even surprise and impress him, the greatest wizard of his time.

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

I wanted to chose a non-fantasy, literary classic for Dumbledore and I don’t know specifically why I chose this one, but I just feel like it’s a book Dumbledore would enjoy and perhaps, in some way, even relate to, as it’s a novel about temptation and power, which is something Dumbledore himself struggled with.

Well, there you go :). What books do you think Dumbledore should read?
